MASTER OF ARTS IN TEACHING FOR LICENSED TEACHERS: GENERAL EDUCATION DUAL CERTIFICATION (ECE/CE)
- Master of Arts in Teaching
- Hybrid
- Virtual
- Online
As a teacher, you do everything you can to help your students realize their full potential. With a master’s degree in teaching from Monroe University, you can also realize your own. The King Graduate School offers a Master of Arts (MAT) for NYSED licensed teachers who are already in the profession — so that you can become the teacher you know you’re meant to be.
Teachers who have already earned their initial licensure can not only further their professional development but increase the grade levels they are licensed to teach. With both full-time and part-time study options, we offer a combination of hybrid and online classes designed specifically to accommodate the schedules of professional teachers. Working with a faculty of experienced teacher-practitioners, you’ll be ready to meet the needs of all young learners in both the early childhood education (ECE) and childhood education (CE) categories: from birth to grade 6.
In the process, you’ll become ready to earn your Professional Teacher Certification from the New York State Education Department (NYSED) and become even better equipped to create safe, equitable learning environments for students from diverse backgrounds.
Degree Advantages
What Are the Advantages of a Master’s Degree in Teaching?
Upon earning their New York State Initial Teaching Certificate, teachers in New York State must complete three years of teaching experience in order to earn their Professional Certificate. They also have to earn a master’s degree in teaching within five (5) years of their initial licensure.

Child and Adolescent Development
How does psychological and scientific research help us understand how race, culture, socio- economic level, toxic stress, and systems of care impact childhood development? And how can we use that knowledge to positively impact the learning processes of students with different experiences, cultures, histories, and perspectives? This multidisciplinary, multicultural course will explore those questions and more, as MAT students examine topics impacting the cognitive, social, and emotional growth of children and adolescents in the 21st century.
