Advance Your Career in Data Science
The 36-credit master's in data science is designed for students who hold an undergraduate degree in computer science, information technology, information systems, or a comparable discipline. The online data science master's program will give you strong theoretical and practical skills in coding, data modeling, statistical computer, data visualization, forecasting, and technical analytic techniques – all needed in modern business settings. Flexible class schedules – onsite in New York, online/hybrid, and weekends – are available.
The Curriculum
The MS in data science program gives students the opportunity to become analytical experts by developing skills in both technology and social science in order to find trends and manage data. Upon graduation, data science master's program students will have developed competencies in:
• Database systems
• Data mining
• Big data
• Data science
• Computer networks
• Cloud computing
• Artificial intelligence
• Machine learning
• Statistical programing
Additionally, data science master's degree graduates will have acquired proficiency in leading edge resources such as Oracle, Hadoop, AWS, SAS, JMP, MATLAB, Tensorflow, and Tableau, and languages such as SQL, Python, and R. These skills will strengthen their expertise in assessing and analyzing systems in a variety of industry sectors.
Data Mining
This course presents a conceptual and practical study of the basic concepts in data mining. Students will learn the fundamental principles of data querying, data analysis, inferential statistics, and classification and then implement solutions to extract meaningful insights from the data. Building upon previous course requirements in coding, programmatic solutions will be developed using Microsoft SQL Server and the Python environment.
Careers
Is a master's in data science worth it? Employment of computer and information research scientists is projected to grow by 15% by the end of the decade, much faster than the average for all occupations according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Students completing the MS in Data Science will be qualified for employment in a number of high-level positions in private, government, and nonprofit sectors. They include:
• Data Scientist
• Data Analyst
• Machine Learning Engineer
• Applied Data Scientist
