Monroe University Grants

Monroe University offers grants that are separate from federal or state financial aid. Each of these grants has specific requirements. These Undergraduate grants are not loans; therefore, they do not have to be paid back. The grants continue until the completion of undergraduate studies and end upon graduation, with the exception of the New York Metro Grant, which ends with the completion of the Associate Degree or completion of 60 credits if the student is directly admitted to a baccalaureate program.  To retain eligibility, students must remain in good academic standing and are expected to maintain continuous enrollment. 

Presidential Partnership Program (PRPG)

Awarded to full or part-time newly admitted students from select New York State high schools who are part of the Monroe University Presidential Partnership Program. The grant is limited and will continue until the completion of undergraduate studies. 

International Student Grant (ISG)

Awarded to new Monroe undergraduate international F1 matriculated students. It may be awarded to U.S. citizens or permanent residents who reside abroad, are Pell eligible, and commence studies at Monroe University immediately upon entering the United States. These students must remain Pell eligible.

Law Enforcement Grant (CJG)

Awarded to full or part-time matriculated students who are active, retired, or disabled members of a uniformed police department,correction or court officers. Civilian employees are not eligible for this grant.  The grant is up to 50% of direct costs (tuition only), based on each semester's enrollment status. Proof of current or former employment is required.  

School Public Safety Officers Criminal Justice Grant (PCJG) (Undergraduate and Graduate Students.)

Awarded to full or part-time matriculated students who are active or retired School Public Safety Officers. The grant is up to 50% of direct costs (tuition only), based on each semester's enrollment status. Proof of current or former employment is required.  

Monroe Partnership Grant (MPG) (Undergraduate and Graduate Students)

The award may be up to 20% of tuition for students who are employed by an organization that has a partnership agreement with Monroe University. Students do not have to be full-time or matriculated and may be incoming freshmen or continuing students.  Proof of employment is required. First year students should contact the appropriate Admissions Office, while continuing students should contact the appropriate Student Financial Services Office.

Graduate Law Enforcement Grant (MCJG)

Awarded to full or part-time matriculated students, who are active retired or disabled members of a uniformed police department, correction officers, or court officers. The grant is up to 50% of direct costs (tuition only), based on each semester's enrollment status. Proof of current or former employment is required. The number of grants is limited to 50 students per award year.

Caribbean Government Supplemental Award (CGSA)

Awarded to accepted international students from Caribbean governments that have entered into an articulation agreement with Monroe University. Eligibility and the amount of the award is dictated by the agreement and is generally matched by the sponsoring ministries. Students must contact the Office of International Admissions for information specific to their respective country.

Monroe Opportunity Grant (MOG)

May be awarded to students recruited to live in Monroe Housing and approved by the appropriate administrator. Students must be living in Monroe Housing.

Enhanced Monroe Opportunity Grant (EMOG)

May be awarded to students recruited to live in Monroe Housing approved by the appropriate administrator. Students must be living in Monroe Housing.

NY Metro Grant (NYM)

May be awarded to commuter students who have graduated from high school in the current year and have an Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) up to $1,000. The grant will continue until the completion of the Associate Degree or 60 credits if the student is directly admitted to a baccalaureate program. Fall 2023 students are expected to have graduated high school by June 2023.   

Transfer Student Grant (TRG)

May be awarded to transfer students. Students must be able to transfer at least 6 credits that apply to the program they are entering and 12 credits in total. Transfer credits that do not apply will not count towards the required 6 credits. The full amount of transfer credits (applied and those banked) for the Bachelor degree will determine the amount of the Transfer Grant.



Online Module Grant (OLMG)

Awarded to students who must take a required 15-week on-line class because the class is not offered in a 7.5 week module.  These students must be DL (online) students. This award will continue as long as the lack of a 7.5 week module for a required course continues.

Legacy Grant (LEA)

Awarded to students whose biological or adopted parent(s) graduated from Monroe University prior to the student's beginning enrollment. Proof that parent(s) graduated from Monroe must be documented. This is one of the only grants that can be combined with a scholarship or other grant. If a scholarship is also awarded by Monroe University, this grant will usually be reduced by 50%.

Campus Grant (CGR)

CGR Grants may be awarded to students based on unanticipated changes to the student's financial aid package or other financial circumstances. Amounts are awarded on a case-by-case basis. 

Enhanced Tuition Award Match (ETACM)

The College will match the student’s Enhanced Tuition Award (ETA) from NY State for the Fall and Winter semesters. The amount of the ETA is determined by New York State.  If the student agrees to receive the ETA award from New York State, they will receive this matching grant from Monroe University.



Monroe Alumni Grant (MALG) (Undergraduate and Graduate students)

May be awarded to students who are Alumni of Monroe University and are enrolling in one of Monroe’s baccalaureate or master's degree programs. The amount of the award is determined by the type of degree in which the student is enrolling. 

 

Students cannot receive two scholarships and/or grants from the college with the exception of the Legacy Grant,  Campus Grants or approval from the Vice President of Student Financial Services for special circumstances. If a student is awarded multiple scholarships and/or a grants, the student will only be able to receive the larger of the awards. If a credit is created after direct costs are taken into account because of an increase in other aid, the college may adjust your need-based college funded awards accordingly, enabling more students to get the extra help they may need from the limited college funds available. The adjustment must be approved by the appropriate college administrator.
