“The fact that i’m able to study accounting and become good at handling reports has helped me get promoted.”
Earning a degree in Accounting from Monroe has opened up new career opportunities for Carol Evans.
"I was working for the NYC Department of Transportation as a Clerical Associate when my supervisor noticed my dexterity in numbers and encouraged me to return to school. I wanted to obtain a formal background in accounting in order to work at a higher level,” Carol said.
Her hard work has paid off as she was recently promoted to Principal Administrative Associate at the DOT and has had a slew of job interview offers. “The fact that I’m able to study accounting and become good at handling reports has helped me get promoted. The accounting program at Monroe played a key role in getting me my job.”
I was able to get started with Monroe through a local union which offered intermediate accounting and business law classes before going back into the classroom on the Bronx campus. Here, the smaller classes give me the “individual attention” to help get me through my coursework. She is currently earning her Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and is expected to graduate in 2022.
Carol also holds both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degrees in Spanish from Middlebury College, and a PhD in Hispanic literature from the University of Texas at Austin.
