Paula Wilson
“I was never just a student at Monroe. I was part of a large family with so many people rooting for me to succeed.”
A native of Jamaica, Paula Wilson began her Monroe education as an online student before moving to the U.S. and attending classes on the Bronx campus. Over the next few years, she earned a bachelor’s degree summa cum laude in health services administration, then followed it with a master’s degree in business management with a concentration in health care management in 2018.
While at Monroe, Paula threw herself into leadership positions, serving as president of the National Society of Leadership and Success and as vice president of the Allied Health Club.
“I was never just a student at Monroe. I was always part of a large family with so many people rooting for me to succeed,” Paula said. “Even when I felt overwhelmed by work, family, and school life, I would attend a class or an event on campus and words of encouragement or an inspirational story from a student, an alum, or a professor would get me back on track. That is the embodiment of Monroe University for me, a place that builds you up and holds you upright to carry on and be your best self.”
Today, Paula is the program manager in the Office of Strategic Management at Bellevue Hospital, a job she started as an intern while at Monroe. “Everything I learned at school, I was able to apply to my internship, and I eventually was hired for a full- time position,” Paula said. “Monroe isn’t just giving you an education, they are preparing you for life.”
