“Everyone at Monroe wants to see you succeed and walk across that stage.”
As one of the first students to attend Monroe’s St. Lucia campus, earning a place on both the Dean’s and President’s Lists, Theresa started her journey at Monroe. She completed 102 credits, before putting her degree on hold to immigrate to the U.S. and prioritize being a mother to her two lovely children.
But Theresa never gave up on her dreams, she vowed to continue her academic journey. The support and encouragement from Monroe’s professors, advisors, and other staff, who she still keeps in touch with, made her feel as though she never left.
Upon her return, the campus became virtual and her online journey began. She thrived, receiving all A’s due to Monroe’s resources creating a seamless transition, affirming that anything is possible.
The COVID-19 pandemic really sparked something in her. She realized her unfinished degree in Public Health could be pivotal in helping others, specifically in fighting infectious diseases. She quickly completed her Bachelor’s of Science in Public Health and went on to earn a Master’s in Public Health with a concentration in Biostatistics and Epidemiology.
Today, she works at Maimonides Cancer Center as a Clinical Trials Support Specialist, while also enrolled in Monroe’s Accelerated Nursing Program. Her goal is to become an infection control practitioner, merging her MPH with an RN license to transform her career.
