Housing
Do I have to be a full time student to live on campus?
Yes. Any student living on campus must either maintain 12 credit hours or be enrolled full-time in our English Language Learning Institute.
What is the cost and what is the housing discount?
Costs of living differ depending on the type of room and the meal plan that you choose. Typically, students should budget around $5,800 per semester for room and board. You can find detailed information regarding housing and meal plan and costs here. .
What are the advantages of living on campus?
The main advantage is living on campus provides easy access to classes and other college facilities, such as, the library, the Academic Center, advisors and fitness center. The dorms offer apartment-style living with a private bathroom for you and your roommates to share and an active community. Resident Assistants (ras) and Student Activities offer a variety of activities throughout the semester for students.
Will I be guaranteed housing?
Students who submit their application and housing application fee before our Housing Application deadline of August 1st and select a room during room selection are guaranteed a placement. After this deadline, students will be placed in any remaining rooms. We usually have a limited amount of rooms available as late as August.
How many residence halls are there?
There are three residence halls.
How many students live in the residence halls?
There is space for approximately 1000 students in the residence halls.
Are freshman required to live on campus?
No but living on campus offers new students the opportunity to live close to the academic buildings and many options for social and educational activities outside of class.
Do you have graduate student housing?
While we do not currently have separate housing for graduate students, graduate students may utilize any of our housing options. Please note that we do not have family housing available, and that all residents must be enrolled students in order to live on campus.
What about internet or cable?
All residential buildings are equipped with strong wi-fi. While cable is not available in the dorm rooms, it is available in the student lounges. Additionally, students may stream entertainment from their personal electronic devices via wi-fi and bring their own tvs for use with personal gaming consoles.
Where can I do my laundry?
There are laundry facilities provided in each of our buildings. Use of the laundry facilities are completed through our cscgo app!
Do the residence halls stay open during official breaks?
Residence halls are open during official breaks. However, the regular meal plan is not in effect during breaks in the academic schedule. Residents are expected to make their own arrangements for food during these times.
May I bring my own furniture with me?
All residence hall rooms are fully furnished with a bed, desk, chair, bureau space and a closet. You may bring furniture into your room, but you should consider what your roommate(s) might be bringing as well. Talk to your roommate(s) before you make any final decisions about furnishing the room. Please note that all furniture assigned to a room must stay in that room; it cannot not be moved or stored to make room for your furniture.
Are the residence halls or apartments co-ed?
Students are placed in rooms based on gender; however, all floors are mixed/co-ed.
How do I get my mail?
Mail and packages can be sent to the college’s address (434 main street, new rochelle, new york 10801) and collected at the mailroom in gaddy hall.
What things will I need to bring when i move into the dorms?
When you are offered a room, you will be sent a move-in checklist, which itemizes things to bring, and things you may not bring to the residence halls. However, you can check what to bring here.
Who has access to the residence halls?
All residence halls are secured 24 hours a day. If you live in the dorms, your student id card is authorized to admit you into all residence halls. You are allowed to enter your building of residence 24 hours each day.
How is safety ensured in the residence halls?
Each room is key entry. The residence halls use a swipe-card entry system and public safety works with the residence life staff to provide a safe and secure environment. Additionally, security cameras are in each building and public safety patrols the residence halls regularly. Resident assistants (ras) and a residence director (rd) are also on duty each night; and can be reached through the duty cell phone within operating hours.
Are pets allowed in the residence halls?
No pets or animals of any kind may be kept in the residence halls. Service animals and approved assistance animals, as defined by the Americans with disabilities act amendments of 2008, must be approved prior to move-in.
Am I allowed to have a car on campus?
No, housing students may not bring a car on campus. Student parking is reserved for commuter students with current parking hang tags distributed by public safety in allison hall. Our campus has ample public transportation close by, which allows students easy access to the surrounding area and to new york city.
Finding a Roommate
How will you choose my roommate(s)?
The housing application includes a number of lifestyle questions to help us match you with a compatible roommate(s). Questions about your preferred bedtime, study habits and more will help us determine good matches.
Can I request a particular roommate(s)?
Yes. Although we can’t guarantee that every request will be fulfilled, we will make every effort to honor your preference, depending on the availability of open rooms. To request a particular roommate, please include your preferred roommate's name and ID number in your housing application. The earlier you apply, the better your chances are of receiving your requested roommate(s)
Note: The eRezLife housing and roommate selection process is only completed during the fall semester. Students moving in for the winter or spring semesters should use the resident’s preferences on the application.
