CAEP Accreditation
Monroe University is proud to be recognized for excellence in educator preparation programs by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) for our Initial degree, the Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood program. We will be seeking accreditation for our new BS in Childhood Education and our Master of Arts in Teaching over the next several years, in accordance with CAEP and NYSED requirements. This accreditation is a prestigious acknowledgement of the program's quality and outcomes.
CAEP — the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation — has a comprehensive and rigorous accreditation process. Approval is only granted to those who meet five comprehensive standards encompassing curriculum, a selective admissions process, strength of school-based partnerships to support excellence in clinical training, the impact of graduates as teachers, as well as an infrastructure that supports continuous improvement.
Real-World Learning
At Monroe, you’ll learn from a faculty made up of highly skilled professors and scholars who combine strengths as skilled teacher coaches with contemporary research, allowing them to prepare well-trained teachers who know both theory and practice.
They'll work one-on-one with you to make sure you master the diverse cognitive, cultural, developmental, and linguistic needs of early childhood learners. You’ll get to apply the knowledge each semester during guided fieldwork in local Early Childhood classrooms under the guidance of professors and partner classroom teachers.

Teaching Professions Scholarship
The Teaching Professions Scholarship, funded by the New York State Education Department Teacher Opportunity Corps II (TOC II), allows Monroe University to offer qualified, diverse candidates the opportunity to earn a Bachelor of Science in either Early Childhood or Childhood Education with no out-of-pocket tuition costs, regardless of income. TOC II candidates must be New York State residents who want to pursue teaching in New York State.

Monroe’s Childhood Education (CE) degree is designed to prepare candidates for the unique needs of children in grades 1-6 in 21st Century classrooms. In addition to a rigorous academic course load that combines theory and best practices, CE students receive a variety of classroom experiences and expert coaching to develop the skills and pedagogy to become excellent teachers.
