Important Update About Taking the TEAS

Any applicant, starting with those applying for fall 2024, who are interested in pursuing nursing programs at Monroe University must take the TEAS (ATI’s Test of Essential Academic Skills) in a live-proctored environment. Very important:  scores from exams taken online will not be accepted.

An applicant may take the TEAS two times within a given year, and there must be at least 6 months between the 1st and the 2nd test. If an applicant takes it twice within six months, only the first test score will be considered.
 

Taking the TEAS

To be considered for admission to a Monroe University Nursing Program, applicants must take the TEAS in person. While we offer testing on our campus, applicants may opt to take it at another ATI-approved testing center.

The first step is to create an ATI account.

1. Create an ATI account (see here to learn more about create account)
2. Register to take the TEAS at ATI’s website. Remember to list Monroe University when asked to add a school identification code.
3. The TEAS exam is offered at our Bronx campus on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:00 am. The address is 2501 Jerome Avenue, Bronx, NY 10468. Applicants wishing to take the TEAS at Monroe should select that location when registering via the ATI website. Walk-ins without an appointment will not be permitted to take the exam.
4. Upon completion of the exam, download the results report and upload it to your application portal. 

An applicant’s score on the TEAS is an important indication of their academic readiness for the rigor of nursing studies. Generally, a composite score of 70% or higher is required with a minimum of 70% on each of the four components: English Language, Reading, Science, and Math.

While the TEAS score is essential, it is not the only cause of consideration the College’s Clinical Admissions Committee considers when assessing applicants for School of Nursing programs.

Additionally, the college receives far more applications than there are available seats; therefore, acceptance to the program is highly competitive and not all applicants meeting the admissions criteria are selected for admission to the program.

Options for a Degree in Nursing

• Progressive Option for Adult Learners 
  Certificate in Practical Nursing (PN) to an associate degree (RN) to a bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BS)
  Please make sure to review all admission requirements and submit all necessary documents as soon as possible to be considered for a spot in our upcoming class.  
• RN to BS Option 
  For RNs who want to earn a bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BS)
• Traditional Option 
  For high school seniors and recent graduates who want to earn a bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BS)
• LPN to RN Option 
  For LPNs who want to earn an associate degree in Nursing leading to RN licensure
• Accelerated Second Degree Option 
  For bachelor’s degree holders who want to earn an accelerated BS in Nursing
• International Medical Graduate (IMG) Option 
  For international medical degree holders who want to earn an accelerated BS in Nursing

You’ll learn from experienced nursing professionals who have a wide range of clinical specialties. Our on-campus labs will help you sharpen your technical skills and our state-of-the-art Human Patient Simulation Center will provide you with hands-on experience in patient assessment and care. You will be mentored by faculty during your external clinical rotations in obstetrics and gynecology, maternity, pediatrics, medical-surgical, and mental health. Join the Student Nurses Association to build leadership skills and participate in professional development opportunities.

TEAS Preparatory class

Monroe’s TEAS Preparatory class is to assist individuals studying to pass the TEAS exam so that they can pursue admission to the School of Nursing at Monroe University.  TEAS prep courses are a great way for students to re-learn important concepts while also learning new material that will be tested on the TEAS. TEAS prep courses will help students become more comfortable taking the TEAS by offering strategies and test taking tips. Like any test you take, studying beforehand will boost your chances for success.
